Crows – Big Black Box.

The fanzine:

I already commented in another post on this blog how these characters arise and the idea of making a fanzine with them: There is always an unexpected beginning.  The truth is that I liked the idea, although I had never thought that these two characters could be funny. In fact I met, with a small problem.

It is that these first crows, were very "rigid" to make a publication where they were the main actors of it. I needed ….

…some crows something sympathetic, and that at the same time of have some bad ostia, were also as far as possible, very expressive.

Another thing to change: drawing. While the ‘originals’ had a simple drawing (accustomed to elaborate enough) ) ‘new’ would have to be more ductile, since he had decided to do something humorous and quirky, as two characters who talk about cinema, series, politics and criticize the customs and behaviors of according to them the ‘homoerectus’ This would allow me, at the same time, to focus on the dialogues.

Once the aesthetics of the drawing have been established, And as I usually do, I began to investigate something about his life, with the idea that it could help me, in the character of the characters.

I've always been fascinated to see them. Being in United Kingdom, I had the opportunity to see and observe many of them, and I have seen them do things. incredible, proving to possess great cunning and intelligence.

Here are some of the things I found:

The Crows, perhaps they are one of the beings of the animal kingdom, which more bad press have had since ancient times. In many cases associated with black magic and sorcery, and that in recent years, films such as The Prophecy have associated, to these, with the dark and diabolical.

In the Tuscan Bestiary, the crow appears as animal number thirteen. In this work moral behaviors and their consequences are explained from animals, and the raven is associated with the sin of the greed.

According to Norse legends, crows are a symbol of thought, mind and wisdom.

Odin, He was known as the raven god and his daughters. Valkyries, they had the power to transform into these animals, and so, collected the souls of fallen warriors in battle and helped them get to the Valhallla.

For the Celts, it is a symbol of conflicts and death, The Irish word for the crow is Badb, which is also the name of a Celtic goddess of war, yet they have also regarded it as, cunning, skilled and knowledge-bearing.

Among the Native American symbolizes the changes and transformation and is summoned in shamanic rituals, to clarify the visions of the healer, bringing him clarity. It's also a Keeper of Secrets and help find answers in our occult wisdom.

Bad omens or not, wise, cunning, and very intelligent, also possess, certain characteristics, scientifically proven:

Their social life is very similar to that of humans.

They are able to theorize about what others think: The ability to hide food is important for crows. When they perceive that they are observed, they hide food more quickly and are less likely to return to a previous hiding place because it would rebel their location to a possible thief.

They like to have fun: They have been observed playing hide-and-seek in the snow, sliding down a roof or even playing ball.

They form gangs like teenagers: When they leave the nest, they form flocks with crows of the same age, have fun, go out for food and live in those groups, until they find a partner, with whom they do the same as their parents.

They make gestures and signals, to communicate with each other, similar to those made by humans.

They hold funerals: When one of the gangs dies, the whole group remains with him, for hours, they flutter, emit loud sounds like whining and present several other behaviors, directly related to the death.

They imitate the human voice: Also sounds of other animals like the wolf.

So far, one small part of what I found, on these Incredible birds.
