Pencil portraits and digital portraits from photographs

At WO Orons we make portraits from photographs using traditional drawing and digital illustration. Each portrait is constructed from scratch, studying the traits, expression, light and personality of the person depicted.

Photography is the starting point, but it does not automatically transform into a drawing. The result is born from observation, interpretation and drawing work.

Pencil portraits from photographs

The pencil portrait is one of the most direct ways to represent a person through drawing.

We work mainly with graphite pencil, studying the features, expression, light and the different values of the face to build the image on paper.

A portrait is not simply about copying a photograph. The drawing interprets the reference image and turns it into a handmade work.

Unlike a caricature, the portrait seeks to preserve the proportions and traits of the person without exaggerating them.

Portraits drawn by hand

Each portrait is developed individually, paying special attention to the resemblance, expression and details that make the protagonist recognizable.

The result can be a portrait of a person, a known character or an artistic interpretation made from a photograph.

Portraits of well-known characters and figures

Throughout our career we have also made portraits of characters from film and series, musicians and well-known figures.

These works are part of our journey within drawing and illustration and allow us to show different treatments of the face, expression and traditional technique.

Portraits made with traditional techniques

The technique and visual treatment may vary depending on the project. The graphite pencil allows you to work from very defined lines and details to different degrees of shadow, volume and texture.

Digital portraits

Portrait can also be done using digital illustration.

In this case the drawing is developed directly in digital format, but there is still a process of construction and drawing.

It's not about applying a filter to a photo or using an automatic app to turn it into an illustration.

The digital portrait allows you to work with different treatments of line, volume, color, lighting and finish.

Portraits on request

If you want to order a portrait from a photograph, we can study your project and assess the most appropriate technique.

You can request a pencil portrait or propose a digital portrait project depending on the result you are looking for.

The photograph you send us will be the reference to develop the drawing. From it we will work the traits, expression and elements necessary to build the portrait.

COMMIT A RETRACT

How We Build a Portrait

The goal of a portrait is not to mechanically reproduce every pixel of a photograph.

Drawing allows you to interpret an image and make decisions about line, light, shadows, expression and finish.

At WO Orons we work with both traditional techniques and digital drawing, always maintaining the same principle: the work is constructed by drawing and not by an automatic transformation of the photograph.

We do not use applications that automatically convert a photograph into drawing, images generated by artificial intelligence or traced photographs.

In addition to portraits, at WO Orons we develop illustrations related to characters and universes of visual culture.
