Myths and legends of live caricatures, the art of imagination, the romanticism of bohemianism and the "tope" with the bureaucrat on duty.

Maybe you have gone through some park, some square, or at a fair, on a promenade, and you have seen some other cartoonist making cartoons at the moment, live and live.

Live cartoons, perhaps it is one of the techniques that require more training, practice, and that are more demanding for any cartoonist.

Considering that "caricature" as such, does not exist; It is simply a product of the imagination of a cartoonist, it is a creation, an invention, or as someone said "a surreal act" or simply a drawing that plays with human anatomy.

Between romanticism and reality.

But there's a part that nobody talks about. Behind that romanticist and bucolic image, of the bohemian painter, who with his pencils and brushes goes and puts himself in a square to make his drawings and paintings, there is the bureaucratic reality, the payments of permits and the total lack of legal protection, before abuses of some officials of the municipalities.

So, let's banish some myths, ranging from what it is to make a caricature, the previous work, that is behind this type of drawing, and some wonderful bureaucratic obstacles that we find out there.

Popular Myths and Legends of Live Cartoons

There are many deep-rooted beliefs about who makes these kinds of cartoons.

In more than thirty years that I have been in it, I have been told large amounts of beliefs, which are repeated and propagated by those who do not know the matter and draw deductions or assumptions that are not true. From "artistic" myths to call them in some way, to the great myth that we pay nothing. So there we're going to talk about them:

"Artistic" myths

1 – This gives rise to:

No, I'm sorry, we weren't born with this.

Perhaps this is because someone has propagated that lie, that fantastic invention. Almost certainly, someone who thinks he is "born an artist" once said so.

This drawing caricatures at the moment is the result of thousands of hours of training and study, and a lot of practice.

Drawers also study anatomy, human expressions, and learn to observe gestures, details that often go unnoticed.

When someone says to me: You were born with this. I usually answer: – Look, when I was about to be born I was given a choice. They said to me: How do you want to be born? As a neurosurgeon or as a cartoonist?

And man, I prefer as a cartoonist, so at least, fewer customers will die.

2 – This gentleman deforms you:

We don't deform anyone. If we exaggerate his traits. Why? Because we play with people's expression. That expression, that gesture, that we all have and that makes us unique, and that characterizes us. Inimitable?

Look at that good example: If you have seen humorous imitators of public characters, they are specialists in "copying" tones of voice, ways of speaking, moving and facial gestures of the character they caricature.

Because in reality what these artists do, is exaggerate all those aspects, which make the imitated person unique.

3 – This gentleman takes the flaws out of you:

Defects? Perfection doesn't really exist. What flaws? This is a totally subjective judgment that we all have about ourselves.

Normally we look much better or much worse than others see us.

Our judgments, criticisms, about ourselves are often hyper-favorable or tremendously devastating.

Cartoons do not highlight "defects" they capture what identifies us, they exaggerate characteristic features.

And as I repeat until tiredness: If there is no exaggeration, it is not a caricature.

"Live

The great myth of bohemia: But you don't pay anything to draw on the street

4 – Another popular belief is that we cartoonists pay nothing: – ‘You stand there and draw‘

This is not the world of YUPI!!!

No, you don't just stand there and draw.

It's not that simple at all. And if you do, the police will most likely be pulling you out within minutes and what they can do. put on I'm sure it's a fine.

To draw on the street you pay.

The City Council always charges.

If they give us room, that's another matter.

So in addition to the payment to the City Council, we can also demand a Civil Liability Insurance and be Autonomous. And it depends on each consistory that they ask us one or another thing or all three.

Many times we pay and they do not give us light, or the space is too small or inadequate and it is impossible to work in those conditions.

5 – Officials:

With the untouchables we have encountered

It all depends on the "wins" that the official has, "things" can happen

In this they also play questions of cronyism.

That is, if you are a "colleague" of the one who gives the permissions you will have preference and all your desires will be fulfilled.

And if you don't have any friends, you'll be asked to show your flexibility.

That is, to what extent you can bend down without getting hooked on your lumbars.

I admit to having the "flexibility" of a fridge, and by measuring 1.86m, the floor is too low. So my "experiences" with this species, ‘funcianarial bureaucrat’ It has been and is of the most varied appearance.

These practices, I don't know why, officials love it.

Normally the officials in charge of giving the permits have no idea, or do not want to have it. Why bother, giving a permit to a guy who makes monkeys, to a beggar. (He stayed as a classist … but he is)

In some places special permits are stipulated for "caricatures and painting" But they grant those permits of cartoonists to sellers of sneakers, hats, scarves and everything you can imagine. It is not uncommon for the "caricaturist" to have jewelry from the Chinese wholesaler.

Why do they do it?

For it is one of those great mysteries of unsolved humanity.

And cartoonists are "thrown" into impossible places to work.

So are the officials on duty, some who don't care, others who have no interest in doing their job, and many simply despise us, and laugh.
